Sick and Shocked
Yesterday, I only did 5 minutes on my treadmill. I’m on the last legs of a case of the flu and I had a bit of a coughing fit, so I stopped.
By the way, I bought this treadmill about a year ago and have used it three times up until yeasterday. I had wanted one for ages and just knew that if I had a treadmill, I would get fit. As soon as I had it home, the feeling of needing a treadmill left me. I’ve been in a LOT of trouble from my better half for getting it and not using it.
Today is a different story. This morning I did 45 minutes on it. Actually watched most of Dr. Phil while walking. I was surprised how fast the time went. I warmed up and cooled down at an easy speed each end of the 45 mins. The rest of the time, I sped it up to as fast as I could walk for two minutes every tem minutes. I worked up a sweat by the end of the walk but felt real good.
Then I did about ten minutes working on building the muscles in my arms with a couple of 5kg weights. That was enough for my first workout.
In the room with my treadmill, I have a small selection of dumbbells and one barbell with several weights to swap between them. I’ve probably used them for a total of about 5 mins before today. There’s also a stationary exercise bike. I used that for about 30 mins the first day I got it (18 months ago) and it made a particular part of my anatomy go numb. (well, that was my excuse). I’ve got to get a nice, big sheepskin cover for the seat.
At same time as when I bought the bike, I also bought a skipping rope. It looked easy when I saw schoolgirls or someone in a gym use one. Mine doesn’t work. Keeps hitting my legs. I’m going to give it another try when my weight drops a bit.
Evening meal time was worrying me. We all eat together at the table and I didn’t know how I was going to stick to the beginning of my eating plan. I’ve only got to look at a chip (fries) and it ends up in my mouth. I talked about what I wanted to do and have come up with a plan.
I will minimise (or delete) sugar and breads. My main food will be vegies, fruit, berries and nuts. For the first month, I will not be eating after 5pm. I’m doing this because I know it helps lose weight and I don’t want a full stomach when I go to bed.
When the family sits down to eat each evening, I will jump on the treadmill while drinking water.
Oh, the shock part…. I weighed myself yesterday morning and I weighed 92.8kg (204.5 pounds) which is about 3kgs more than I thought I weighed. Oh well, it’ll be gone soon.

Balance it out. Don’t think about exercise all the time. Better have an intense routine once and in a few days in a week rather than having to do it frustratingly over and over again.
